Nuxt
The Vue equivalent of Next.js — a full-stack Vue framework with file-based routing, SSR/SSG, API routes, and auto-imports. Nuxt 3 uses Nitro (server engine) and supports hybrid rendering (static + dynamic). The standard for production Vue apps.

- Vue production apps.
- SSR/SSG Vue sites.
- When you want Vue's developer experience with full-stack.
- When you need React ecosystem (use Next.js).
- Maximum hiring pool (React is bigger).
Definition
Nuxt is a Vue meta-framework. File-based routing (pages/, components/, layouts/). Server routes in server/api. SSR, SSG, ISR modes. Auto-imports for components/composables. Nitro server engine. Modules for auth, i18n, SEO, etc.
Why it exists
To give Vue the same full-stack capabilities React has with Next.js — SSR, routing, API routes, and a complete production framework.
How it works
Pages in pages/ directory auto-generate routes. Components auto-import. useFetch/useAsyncData for data. server/api/ for backend routes. Nitro compiles server code. nuxt.config.ts configures modules and build.
Scaling limits
Smaller ecosystem than Next.js. Vue's smaller market share affects hiring. Module quality varies.
Cost shape
Free and open source.
Alternatives
Failure modes
- Smaller ecosystem.
- Vue market share.
- Module compatibility.
